I have lived in Westminster for 21 years. My career took on a varied trajectory after college. I was employed in the corporate world for 15 years, was self-employed for 15 years and have worked in the non-profit world for 15 years.
The great outdoors is my happy place. My idea of relaxing is going for a long run, kayaking at Piney Run, hiking the AT or at Harpers Ferry, gardening or reading a good book or my latest running magazine. I find peacefulness in the morning and will take a beautiful sunrise over a beautiful sunset any day of the week. I am blessed with a wonderful family and a small circle of friends that I consider family.
I enjoy talking with people and often tease my Mom that she clearly never taught me not to talk to strangers because I do that often! Saying hello, wishing someone a nice day, or offering a smile takes the blink of an eye to do and who knows, you might be the only one that acknowldeged that person that day. That’s so important.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family. Include your pets too!
I am the youngest of four. All of my siblings are very successful; two are in the education fields and one in healthcare. I have 1 niece, 3 nephews, 4 great-nephews and 5 great nieces. The highlight of my week is spending time with my Mom.
Q: What is one of your favorite quotes or lines in a song and why does it resonate with you?
Trust the timing of your life. I believe that every person and opportunity that comes into your path, every conversation you have and the timing of them happens for a reason.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
For the past 6 1/2 years, I have worked in the Office of Institutional Advancement and the College Foundation at Carroll Community College. I am the Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving and Grants Management. I love having the ability to make an impact on someone’s life.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Trust your gut instincts.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite places or events in our community? What is something unique about our community?
Planet Fitness, the Eldersburg and Finksburg libraries and the Farmer’s Market. I think the art and cultural events makes us a unique community….and there’s the annual “Peeps”s Show!
Q: What advice would you give to people living in Westminster or looking to move to Westminster?
Summers can stink ….literally! I’m referring to my first summer here….it was super hot and I had never experienced the aroma of chicken manure! “Whew” to farm country! It’s not hard to get used to – just a huge shock!
Q: What 3 words come to mind when you think of Westminster?
We. Need. Trader Joes.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Coffee at Dunkin.
Q: Tell us about your bucket list.
I don’t believe in bucket lists.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I enjoy riding on the back of a motorcycle.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My Mom. She never complains and despite her limitations, is a “suck it up butter cup” kind of gal! She is kind, grateful and very appreciative of her family and those that are kind to her.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I would love to have lunch with the Dalai Lama. I respect and appreciate his philosophy of living in the moment. It would have to be a private lunch catered by The Food Chick, because she makes the best black bean burgers and respects my plant based diet.
Q: Finally, how can our readers and I know if someone we come in contact with is a good connection for you or a good person for you to meet?
A good connection for me would be someone that is interested in learning how they can make an impact in their community and truly change the trajectory of someone’s life. Also, someone that has been thinking about starting to run but isn’t sure where to start!
