My name is Michael Eaton. I work at Barrier-Free full time and I am a founding member. Barrier-Free is a non-profit, disability service organization that provides inclusive art, self-advocacy, and social programming to the community for adults with disabilities. I am a neurodiverse male with autism and I began with Barrier-Free as a participant about eight years ago. I and the Creative Director of Barrier-Free, Britt, decided to branch out and create inclusive theater companies around the Carroll County area. Barrier-Free expanded and I was promoted to a Teaching Artist. I love movies, video games, and hanging out with my Barrier-Free besties.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family. Include your pets too!
Britt and Lauren Burr have been integral in my professional and social development. They ensure my needs as an autistic adult are met and have been paramount in my growth from participant to teaching artist.

Q: What is one of your favorite quotes or lines in a song and why does it resonate with you?
“Do or do not. There is no try.” –Yoda

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I love that I am able to help folks with disabilities like me lead a full and fulfilling life. I am proud to help break down the stigma surrounding disabilities and the workforce.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Time heals all wounds. During the time you have, grow and make yourself better.

Q: What are a couple of  your favorite places or events in our community? What is something unique about our community?
Pride Festival, Fall Fest, Carnival, Farmer’s Market…and Barrier-Free, of course!

Q: What advice would you give to people living in Westminster or looking to move to Westminster?
Get connected in your local community. Visit small business.

Q: What 3 words come to mind when you think of Westminster?
Home, Small Town, and Kind

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Barrier-Free is a perfect 10 out of 10 and I would not be here without them in the community helping me.

Q: Tell us about your bucket list.
Grow my organization even more and become an even stronger pillar in the community. I’d also like to visit all Disney theme parks.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I was homeless when Britt found me. She introduced me to Barrier-Free and gave me a purpose. I don’t know where I would be if that didn’t happen.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My mentors, Barrier-Free, and my community.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Dan Aykroyd from Ghostbusters. He’s on the spectrum I think.

Q: Finally, how can our readers and I know if someone we come in contact with is a good connection for you or a good person for you to meet?
If they are interested in helping people with disabilities, love video games, or movies, and want to be advocates in the community then I am down!
